CWS adheres to all guidelines for humanitarian assistance mandated by the International Committee of the Red Cross. CWS has a long relationship with the Sphere project, a common set of international standards used in disaster response. Both set a strong mandate for appropriate standards in providing humanitarian assistance, and specifically prohibit proselytizing.

Patrick’s Journey to a Home

Eight-year-old Patrick has spent his entire life in a refugee camp in Burundi. When his family arrived in the United States last year, CWS warmly welcomed them into their first permanent home—a place of safety and stability. Through strong local partnerships, CWS helps refugee families like Patrick’s not just settle in, but thrive, lighting the path to a new future.

Longing for Home

For 41 years, Lilia Vitalievna Miasnikova worked as a doctor in Ukraine, but her life changed dramatically when Russia invaded, forcing her to flee to Moldova. With support from CWS, she rebuilt her life—and now, she’s lighting the way for other refugees, helping them find hope in their darkest moments. Your gift can help refugees like Lilia rebuild and thrive.

Olha Finds Sweet Success with Chocolate

Your support today can be the light that helps refugees like Olha Yaloza rebuild their lives. Forced to flee Ukraine, Olha left behind her beloved chocolate and pastry business. After arriving in the U.S., her dreams seemed shattered until she connected with CWS, receiving vital support, including rental assistance, legal services and a small business grant to reignite her passion for chocolate in her new community.

Kakuma Camp: A Place Called Nowhere

In Swahili, Kakuma means “nowhere,” but for over 250,000 refugees in Kenya, this CWS-supported refugee camp is a sanctuary for those seeking safety and belonging. Despite the uncertainty and challenging circumstances that lead people here, your generosity can empower children to learn, women to start businesses, and families to hope for a better tomorrow—filling the world with light and opportunity.
