How $10 Can Bring Hope to Refugees in Crisis
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, millions of Ukrainian refugees have fled to neighboring Moldova, often with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. CWS partners with local organizations and communities in Moldova, and around the world, to provide essential support, including food, education, employment, mental health care and other vital services to both refugees and the families who welcome them.

CWS adheres to all guidelines for humanitarian assistance mandated by the International Committee of the Red Cross. CWS has a long relationship with the Sphere project, a common set of international standards used in disaster response. Both set a strong mandate for appropriate standards in providing humanitarian assistance, and specifically prohibit proselytizing.
Every refugee’s journey is unique, but many share common threads—leaving loved ones behind, fleeing quickly with few belongings and facing the daunting task of rebuilding a life.
For Julia and her two sons, the simple joy of preparing a meal brings them a sense of peace. “My younger son loves when I prepare sweets at home. I can’t wait to surprise him with some pancakes…my older son would love an omelet with sausages for breakfast,” she shared. “We are happy to participate in preparing the meals and creating a bit of atmosphere that reminds us of home.”
With tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees now in Moldova with limited resources, buying basic necessities like food is a challenge for refugees and the families that host them. Through partnerships with local organizations and food banks, CWS is working to ensure refugees and Moldovan communities have access to the food they need to fill their pantries and focus on rebuilding.
